THE GIRLPOWER
Vibez Project
Keeping girls in school for a brighter future.
Startling research shows that young women from South Africa’s underprivileged communities can miss up to one quarter of every academic year due to their menstrual cycle. Without access to the feminine hygiene products they need, these girl students are forced to skip school and stay home during their period. This leads to many of them dropping out of school altogether.
Not only does this have a devastating impact on their education, it also damages their self-esteem and potential to develop into South Africa’s next generation of empowered female leaders.
Empowering girls to achieve – every day
While the menstrual cycle is a natural part of every girl’s life, it shouldn’t stand in the way of their academic progress. The GirlPower Vibez Project was launched by the Tenya Foundation NPC in August 2019.
This donation-driven initiative is dedicated to providing the sanitary products and support these girls need to attend school every day and reach their full potential.
Reusable sanitary pads donated to 40 girls in Ekangala, Gauteng.
Reusable sanitary pads donated to 10 girls in Alexandra, Gauteng.
Reusable sanitary pads donated to 5 girls at Zandi’s Angels Orphanage in Boksburg, Gauteng.
Education is the heart of driving economic change in our nation! The next generation of doctors, scientists, engineers, lawyers and police officers need us all to come together and play our part.
We are passionate about children’s education and through this initiative we donate books to young children in underprivileged communities to increase their literacy levels through access to high quality books.
Founded in 2018 by Terry and Nyasha Madavo, the Tenya Foundation is dedicated to uplifting underprivileged individuals and communities in South Africa. Originally involved with the Mwala Foundation and various community-based initiatives in Lehae, Terry and Nyasha have continued to live their values of family, responsibility and purpose – making the world a better place one person at a time.
We rely on the support of our generous donors and partners. You can help us make a difference by contributing funds to any of our projects and initiatives, as well as donating reusable or disposable feminine hygiene products to the GirlPower Vibez Project. You can also help support these communities in need by encouraging your friends, family and colleagues to contribute too.
